The Ministry of Health and Lesotho Red Cross Society embarked on an awareness campaign with the aim to increase COVID-19 vaccination uptake in the four districts of Berea, Mohale’s Hoek, Quthing, and Thaba Tseka. Prior to the campaign, training on Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) was conducted for RCCE teams from the districts mentioned above.

The trainings were kickstarted on November 23rd this year at Mohlakeng village in Thaba Tseka district where 27 people attended. The same exercise was held for Berea RCCE team from Wednesday 30th November to 1st December 2022 and 37 people attended.

The RCCE team comprise of Red Cross volunteers, 3 NGOs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Lesotho News Agency (LENA), and Motjoli Community Radio to mention few. The said organizations form part of the District RCCE team which mobilizes communities on the COVID-19 vaccine. The RCCE teams together with LRCS volunteers do the mobilization in the communities; encouraging people to vaccinate and take the booster.

The training was facilitated by the Ministry of Health and the Lesotho Red Cross Society with the support from Africa CDC Saving Lives and Livelihoods in partnership with Mastercard Foundation.

The workshop was officially opened by The District Administrator Mr. Khau Maseru.
