In one of the first but coldest and wettest days of winter this year – May 12th, volunteers from different parts of Lesotho gathered in Ha Senekane, Berea to celebrate the birthday of the founder of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement Mr. Henry Dunant.
Mr. Dunant was born on May 8th, 1828 in Geneva Switzerland and died on October 30th, 1910 in a hospice in Heiden, Switzerland.
The theme for 2018 World Red Cross Red Crescent Day was “Everywhere for Everyone -Smile”.
The Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) celebrated the day by planting a total of 40 fruit trees at Mokoallong High School.
The activity was led by the President of the Society Mr. Silas Mosuhli who made a demonstration of how to plant a fruit tree. A total of 840 trees were supposed to have been planted that day but due to bad weather conditions only 40 were planted. The rest were later planted by the learners on their own.
